Current Exhibit

MTCC’s newest exhibit, “Hateful Things” opened Sept. 19 and will be open until Nov. 30. This collection of objects and images trace the stereotyping of African Americans from the late 19th century to the present. Some items include derogatory caricatures, signs from the segregation era and images commending violence against African Americans.

Through this exhibit, MTCC hopes to help people understand how hateful ideas and objects create a culture of fear and hatred that has led to tragedies like the Elaine Massacre.

“Hateful Things” is a traveling exhibit from the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia at Ferris State Universit0y. Click here to view the objects in the collection.
