Mosaic Templars Cultural Center - Wednesday, October 07, 2020

We are living through a historic moment – one that has hit our state’s Black communities especially hard. We are collecting your stories to preserve history in the making

“Our program, ‘COVID in Black,’ will be instrumental in collecting, showcasing and preserving the thoughts, stories and daily lives of African Americans living in Arkansas during this deadly pandemic,” said Christina Shutt, director of the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center. “COVID in Black is a multi-facetted approach that will spotlight the kaleidoscope of African American experiences statewide.”

Black Arkansans who are interested in the project can fill out a survey or email videos, photos, written stories, audio recordings and more to Items may also be mailed directly to the museum at 501 W. 9th St., Little Rock, Arkansas, 72201, or sent to us through Facebook.

“COVID in Black: the African American Experience in Arkansas” is funded in part by the Arkansas Humanities Council, the Endowment for the Humanities and the U.S. Congress and was created to record the stories, experiences, details, thoughts and emotions happening as the deadly pandemic, COVID-19, continues to spread across Arkansas and the nation.

National and state news reports have shown minority communities are often the most impacted by COVID-19. MTCC is dedicated to making sure African American community voices in Arkansas are heard. We will be reaching out to some community leaders, while simultaneously encouraging residents to submit their stories. We also a have a survey to make it easier to respond.
