Military veterans attended a private exhibition opening in September. The Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, a museum of Arkansas Heritage, is pleased to announce a virtual Veterans Day celebration at 9 a.m. Nov. 11 on Facebook Live.

“Veterans Day honors all those men and women who have served our great nation during times of war or in peace, who are now dead or alive, and who have sacrificed so much to preserve our freedoms,” said Stacy Hurst, secretary for the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism. “We want to take this moment to thank our heroes for their service.”

Veterans Day was originally established to commemorate Armistice Day for the end of World War I. The name officially changed in 1954 as a way to formally commemorate all American veterans of all wars. Today, more than 200,000 veterans call Arkansas home.

MTCC plans to offer a virtual program that will pay homage to all Arkansas’s veterans, including highlighting the history of Black veterans. “We are proud to be able to offer Arkansans a safe way to gather, learn, honor, celebrate, thank and remember all of our military service members,” said Christina Shutt, museum director.

See the Presentation of Colors, learn the meaning of Veterans Day and discover trailblazers of military history. Special speakers at the event will include Gov. Asa Hutchinson; retired, U.S. Army Col. Nathaniel “Nate” Todd, secretary of the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs; Sen.
