MTCC to debut Creativity Arkansas 2016 at 8th anniversary celebration

Mosaic Templars Cultural Center - Tuesday, September 06, 2016

Mosaic Templars Cultural Center (MTCC) will unveil the 2016 Creativity Arkansas collection at an opening reception and anniversary celebration at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15.

The Creativity Arkansas pieces will be part of MTCC’s fall exhibit, “Treasured Memories: My Life, My Story,” which comprises two parts: this year’s additions to the Creative Arkansas collection as well as other pieces recently acquired by the museum.

This year’s Creativity Arkansas artists are Barbara Higgins Bond, Danny Campbell, Latoya Hobbs, Delita Martin, Aj Smith and Rex Deloney.

MTCC opened its doors in September 2008, and the opening of the art exhibit is part of activities marking the museum’s 8th anniversary celebration. Free and open to the public, the reception will feature refreshments, interactive displays and live music by Kemistri featuring Nicky Parrish.

“Treasured Memories: My Life, My Story” will be on display through the end of the year.

The Creativity Arkansas collection began in 2008 and showcases artwork created by African American artists with a connection to Arkansas. The collection celebrates the history of the state through vivid works in a variety of media. Consistent with the vision of MTCC, the collection preserves and documents Arkansas history through the visual arts.

Artwork acquired for Creativity Arkansas is used for MTCC’s educational programming and periodically serves as inspiration for new public programs. The entire collection is funded through a grant from the Arkansas Natural and Cultural Resources Council.
